Winter Olympics won't be shown live in Singapore

A survey taken last April by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism found that only 35.6 percent of people were interested in the Winter Olympics.

North Korea has agreed with South Korea to send a 230-strong cheering squad to the Winter Olympics, as well as an orchestra and taekwondo performance team.

During an era of detente in the 2000s, their athletes marched together in the opening and closing ceremonies of nine worldwide sporting events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but they failed to produce a joint team.

Research by cybersecurity firm FireEye's Luke McNamara described North Korea's increasing interest in cryptocurrencies as an asset class, with the value of Bitcoin rocketing over the course of past year.

North Korea's Kim Jong-un, despite being an obvious concern, appears to be on board with the Winter Olympics. On 8 February, the freestyle skiers will leave for Pyeongchang from Japan where they are wrapping up their pre-Olympic training. The official added that the North Korean team will have to return the hockey equipment when they leave the country.

In any case, Valentine's Day is happening during the games, so we're sure at least some of those 110,000 will be put to use. At least three North Koreans have to be selected for each game.

There are 115 members on the IOC, and candidates may be an individual member, an active athlete, a representative of an global sports federation or a representative from a national Olympic body.

Athletes, coaches and members of sports delegations, including Belarusians, will live here.

While athletes from a few countries had already moved into the villages, 500 athletes arrived on Wednesday, including South Korea's snow-event athletes.

South Korean officials are hoping the Olympics will boost the area's population by creating a new tourism cluster, Grant-Long says.

FireEye's research noted how escalating economic sanctions against North Korea were accompanied by a surge in hacking campaigns targeting South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges.
