HBO wins bidding war for JJ Abrams sci-fi drama series

The premium cable network won the bidding war over Abrams' sci-fi thriller "Demimonde", the first series he has created since 2008's "Fringe". TV, Abrams' studio Bad Robot, and HBO. Her father ends up in the world with her. HBO is reportedly describing the series as "an epic and intimate sci-fi fantasy drama". Sources previously revealed that the story surrounds a worldwide fight against a significant, and possibly, supernatural force. The "Star Trek" director who also serves as the executive producer on the show "Westworld", according to a report. The title is a French world which means a half-world, so it seems like we're dealing with a Narnia kind of situation here. It comes from Alexandre Dumas' Le Demi-Monde. Demimonde's showrunner is yet to be announced.

HBO has given Demimonde a straight to series order, with Abrams as writer and executive producer. It's no wonder streaming services are frothing to get their hands on Demimonde - with Abrams at the helm (he'll write and possibly direct), it's practically guaranteed gold. That's mostly because of his involvement in the ABC series LOST, but more recently, Abrams also turned heads with the series adaptation of Michael Crichton's 1973 film Westworld, which became a hit for HBO.

This is the first series exclusively created by Abrams since the 2001 ABC drama Alias.

In other words, HBO is aiming to be the anti-Marvel, making TV shows that feel more like movies, instead of movies that feel more like TV shows.
