Go Red For Women

Did you know that 80 percent of heart disease in women is preventable through diet, exercise and knowing your key health numbers?

The city of Winston-Salem will officially kick off National Wear Red Day at the 10th annual Winston-Salem Goes Red Breakfast.

A sea of red will sweep across the country and into the heartland Friday. Wear Red Day intends to raise awareness and advocate for more research for women's heart health. It's particularly devastating for women with 1 in 3 deaths each year. More than 800,000 people in the USA die from heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases each year. The $15 event begins at 7 a.m. and will offer the following screenings: cholesterol, glucose (blood sugar), blood pressure, heart risk assessment, EKG (based on individual risk), height, weight, BMI, and body fat calculations.

The easiest way to participate is by simply wearing red.

You can also shop at Macy's and pick up a Red Dress pin. This year, they have a goal to raise $2,000,000.

Spread the word. Use your social media presence to entice others to join the fight against heart disease and stroke using the hashtag.

Since 2004, the retailer has raised a staggering $65 million for the American Heart Association's signature campaign!
