Apple shares fall again on another report of fading iPhone X demand

The iPhone SE is nearing its second birthday, and we've previously heard rumblings of the company making a follow-up more affordable phone to go alongside the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X range.

The Nikkei report states that Apple has notified its suppliers of its intention to reduce its iPhoneX production target to around 20 million units in the three months from January 2018.

Apple is scheduled to report its first-quarter results this Friday AEDT. The report added that Apple would maintain its production targets for its lower end models: the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7. It is reported that they were charging Apple about $120 per display. It will have a notch, just like the iPhone X, but the display won't be quite as expansive as it is on the iPhone X. Bezels are said to be around 0.5mm.

We're only a few days away from Apple releasing its Q4 2017 earnings report on Thursday, which will likely reveal more information about iPhone sales through the end of a year ago. The 2018 iPhone X will come with a 2800mAh battery, versus the 2715mAh from past year. Hence, the company has chose to cut iPhone X production targets in half in the first quarter of this year.

One of the main reasons for the iPhone X's lackluster performance seems to be the price. Digitimes Research senior analyst Luke Lin said that Apple is in the middle of developing two LCD devices and two OLED devices.

We don't expect to see the iPhone X disappear yet, but the less that stellar sales for Apple would suggest it needs to build upon the iPhone X's design a little more to come out punching in the mobile world this year.

In case Apple decides to launch a second-generation of iPhone SE, we still need to wait for the company's confirmation.

Taiwan-based Kuo, who is close to many Apple suppliers, has made several accurate predictions about Apple in the past. And finally, it will be using an LCD screen instead of OLED.
