Sri Lanka bowled out for 221 against Bangladesh

Sri Lanka lost 23 of their 29 ODIs in 2017 and were also defeated in their first two matches of this competition, by Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Hossain had been the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with figures of 4-46. He had replaced the wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim as the captain of the team in December previous year.

Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya got the important breakthrough as Mushfiqur went for 22, as the Tigers were 80/4 after 22.4 overs.

He then removed Mehidy Hasan (5), leaving Bangladesh stranded at 90-5.

Mahmudullah was the only player that showed a willingness to fight as wickets fell around him, the right-hander making his way to 76 before he became part of a hat-trick taken by debutant seamer Shehan Madushanka that finished the game.

Dushmantha Chameera bowled with good pace, returning the excellent figures of 2/6 including the wicket of Rahim who was undone by a slower delivery.

Upul Tharanga top-scored with 56 off 99 balls while skipper Dinesh Chandimal added 45.

Sri Lanka, who face Bangladesh in the tri-nation final on Saturday, will also play two Twenty20 internationals against the hosts.

Openers Upul Tharanga was not out on 39 while Danushka Gunathilaka was on 35 as Sri Lanka raced to the victory in only 11.5 overs.

Kusal Mendis smashed 28 off just nine balls, hitting two fours and three sixes to lead the visitors' charge but he played a rash shot to throw away his wicket.

Bangladesh had already qualified for the final on the back of their three consecutive wins in the tournament.

Shakib injured the little finger on his left hand while fielding in Saturday's one-day global with Sri Lanka in Dhaka.
