Punctures have been frequent through the race, with main tyre supplier Continental claiming that teams are running their compounds outside of the recommended parameters, causing the problems. The team previously won the Rolex 24 in 2014 with Barbosa, Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdais and Burt Frisselle.

Fernando Alonso's #23 machine lost further ground at the start of the 19th hour with a reported fly-by-wire throttle problem that dropped it down to 19th overall, 36 laps down on Barbosa's leading Cadillac. Alonso drove a third of the race and the No. 23 vehicle finished 13th in Prototypes, 90 laps behind the No. 5.

The vehicle completed 808 laps, smashing the previous distance and lap record in the Florida endurance classic, in a race that featured only four full-course cautions. It was slowed just four times for yellow flags.
