The BJP Saturday slammed the Congress for kicking up an "unwarranted controversy" over its party chief Rahul Gandhi being given a sixth row seat at the Republic Day Parade and accused him of behaving like a "super VVIP".
Gandhi was seen sitting in the middle rows and chatting with senior Congressman and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said the BJP-led Central government had broken the convention under which the president of the Congress was given a front row seat.
In a post on micro-blogging site Twitter, Party spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao said, 'Rahul Gandhi was given the seat during Republic Day parade as per the protocol, rules & traditions. He said under the UPA, presidents of BJP which was the main opposition, Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh, were allocated seat in the 11th row meant for officials.
