President Leaves Ghana For AU Summit

Vera Songwe, said yesterday that the money was lost through various fraudulent activities.

She said corruption is the major source and elements of financial flows which drains tremendous resources from the continent. The AU has chosen the theme of winning the fight against corruption as a sustainable launch pad for Africa and its transformation.

According to Alonso, even though malaria is a continental problem, some countries, such as Nigeria, have the largest share of cases in the African continent.

Presidential Media Aide, Garba Shehu said this is in recognition of the massive decline in corruption in public services since Buhari took office in 2015.

The targets of the SDG mainly focus the economic, social and environmental aspects of development. "Although the poverty level is reducing, it is still intolerably high at about an average of 40 percent for the continent", she added.

The heads of states will also attend a closed session to address the main issues on the summit's agenda, including institutional reforms of the 55-nation bloc, as well as efforts to establish an African free trade zone.

The understanding reached today follows the signing at UN Headquarters in April 2017 of a landmark framework to strengthen partnership between the UN and the AU on peace and security, and help the two organizations better respond to the evolving challenges of peace operations.

"The continent is deeply shocked by the message of hatred and the desire to marginalize Africa", Mahmat said, in preparation for the African Union summit which will be held on Sunday.

The summit will set the agenda for the 30th ordinary session of heads of states and governments which will start on January, 27th.

This is the first time in the 54-year history of the AU that anti-corruption will be made a theme of the gathering of the regional leaders.
