Sixers' Simmons, Embiid picked for Rising Stars game

The 24th Rising Stars is the first with Mtn Dew Kickstart as title partner, with the brand expanding the event into a yearlong platform showcasing up-and-coming National Basketball Association players.

Embiid, already rewarded with a starting nod to the All-Star Game, will join Simmons in the All-Star Weekend's Rising Stars game. He ranked tied for first among qualified rookies in blocks per game, second in field-goal percentage (59) and fourth in rebounds. Murray was named the 2017 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge MVP after posting 36 points and 11 assists - both game highs - in a 150-141 Team World victory. He also ranks third overall in the National Basketball Association in free throw shooting percentage at 92.4%. He recently posted a career-high 38 points (14-19 FG) to go with five boards and six assists vs. Portland on 1/22, just one game after tallying 30 points, five rebounds and two assists vs. Phoenix on 1/19. The U.S. will play a team composed of global players.

The Sixers, Lakers, Bulls, Celtics and Kings are all sending multiple participants to play in the Team US vs. Team World contest featuring players in their first and second seasons. Carmelo Anthony won the award in 2005, and Kenneth Faried won it in 2013.

World Team - Bogdan Bogdanovic (Kings); Dillon Brooks (Grizzlies); Joel Embiid (76ers); Buddy Hield (Kings); Lauri Markkanen (Bulls); Jamal Murray (Nuggets); Frank Ntilikina (Knicks); Domantas Sabonis (Pacers); Dario Saric (76ers); Ben Simmons (76ers).

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. was selected to compete for the U.S. Team in the 2018 Mtn Dew Kickstart Rising Stars at All-Star 2018 in Los Angeles.
