Apple becomes Laureate partner for the Malala Fund

Apple is becoming the fund's first Laureate partner and the company's CEO Tim Cook will join its leadership council. Twenty-year-old Yousafzai was shot in the head by a masked Taliban gunman in 2012 and has made it her life's work to advocate for girls' education and equality. Apple's specific financial and in-kind commitment to the Malala Fund awaits further light, but the new partnership is expected to expand Malala Fund's initiatives to India and Latin America. The initial objective is to spread secondary educational opportunities to over and above 100,000 girls.

The joint project aims to combine Apple's forty years of expertise in the world of technology and Yousafzai's aim to secure education for underprivileged girls worldwide through the Malala Fund.

The courageous Malala Yousafzai looked at the President and told him that his policy of drone attacks was killing innocent civilians in Pakistan and stoking terrorism. Together, the Malala Fund and Apple will champion "every girl's right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education".

She continued by saying, "Through both their innovations and philanthropy, Apple has helped educate and empower people around the world". Malala Fund now operates in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and countries where there are Syrian refugees, like Lebanon and Jordan. The Malala Fund is her vehicle for doing so.

The joint initiative was devised after Cook and Yousafzai met in Oxford in October, after the tech boss reached out to the women's rights campaigner.

Yousafzai said in the release that she's "grateful" for Apple's partnership.

Currently, approximately 130 million girls are out of school, according to the Fund, many of them because they live in war-torn areas.

A showed that 81 percent of Apple's senior officials are men, while only 23 percent of its technical staff and 33 percent of its global workforce are women.

In 2014, Yousafzai became the youngest victor of the Nobel Peace Prize, an honour she shared that year with children's rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

Apple continues to stress the need of education widespread amongst the masses for a brighter and more progressive future.
