Dark Souls Remastered Announcement Trailer | Switch, PS4, X1, PC

The genre-defining title is coming back in high-definition detail and it also marks the debut of the Dark Souls series on a Nintendo platform for the first time ever. Naturally, and given the very bad initial state of the PC version of the first Dark Souls game, a lot of PC gamers wondered whether this would be a free upgrade for them.

Dark Souls, an intricate and arcane work of dark fantasy pits players against a world of demonic creatures, is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time.

On the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro the game will render at 1080P and supports resolution upscaling. The game will also include the original DLC as well, meaning players will also get the Artorias of the Abyss DLC included. There's no word yet on whether or not we'll see the Trilogy Box released outside of Japan, but we're hoping Dark Souls' global appeal has reached a point where shipping a few (thousand) Trilogy Boxes to Europe and North America makes sense. Following up this announcement, Bandai Namco has recently revealed a Dark Souls box set that will be coming soon only to PS4.

In other Dark Souls merch news, Fangamer is teasing "figurines, apparel, and more" this spring. New graphics and lighting, natch, plus online upgrades to bring it to a similar player count as later games in the series.

Nintendo's packing everything it can into the Switch re-release of the Zelda-themed brawler Hyrule Warriors.

And that's good news given how many Switch units have sold in the past 10 months, as there's likely to be a lot of people eager for fresh games.

Today has been a big day for Dark Souls fans. As of yet, we do not know how that will be split between cooperators and invaders.
