Seahawks continue housecleaning, fire Tom Cable

OC Darrell Bevell was already fired early Wednesday morning. The team was particularly poor at running the football, as it placed just 23rd in rushing offense in 2017.

As our friend Seth Wickersham outlined in a feature story previous year, the Seahawks -- and Sherman in particular -- could never get over their gut-wrenching Super Bowl loss.

Bevell's Seahawks tenure may best be remembered for his role in the play call that cost Seattle Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots in February 2015.

Bevell was informed of the decision Tuesday night, according to ProFootballTalk, which first reported his dismissal. It's two years ago.

Under Bevell, the Seahawks also set a club record with 6,012 total yards in 2014 and broke that a year later with 6,058.

Seattle's offense was unable to find consistency this season despite Russell Wilson leading the league in touchdown passes with 34. The play of the offensive line has been subpar in recent seasons and the Seahawks have tried high draft picks, free agent signings and a trade for left tackle Duane Brown in hopes of perking things up without finding much success. "We go into a game knowing what the defense is going to give us, the situations we're going to be in". We don't execute as a team. "You guys can blame Bev all you want to, but the truth of the matter is that Bev's not the problem".

The Seahawks have fired offensive line coach and assistant head coach Tom Cable, a source has told the Seattle Times.

One potential candidate to replace Bevell is Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. There had been a report that the Seahawks could look to bring Bradley back to Seattle, especially if current DC Kris Richard - who interviewed to be the head coach of the Colts on Friday - were to head elsewhere.
