Huawei deal to sell phones through AT&T in USA falls through

According to the source, Verizon meant to sell the Huawei Mate 10 this summer, but it had recently been pushed back to fall, and now it appears there is a strong likelihood it will be cancelled altogether. Now, the smartphone maker has confirmed that that will no longer be the case.

Huawei was supposed to announce its deal with AT&T during CES 2018 this week, but AT&T apparently canceled its arrangement with the Chinese phone maker.

Instead, Huawei said it would be selling its flagship device, the Mate 10 Pro, directly to consumers. No explanation for the decision has been given, and a Huawei spokesperson would only say that "Huawei has proven itself by delivering premium devices with integrity globally and in the U.S. market". Huawei's CES 2018 keynote is happening tomorrow, and it'll be interesting to see what the company has to say. "USA consumers need a better choice, and as a leader in technology and innovation, Huawei is prepared to fill this need", the company said in a statement provided to Reuters. Unfortunately, Huawei has come forward and in its own words, confirms that it will not be selling carrier-branded phones in the U.S. It was heavily rumored that AT&T would be selling Huawei's flagship smartphone in the US, but it looks like the carrier backed out of the potential deal.

Huawei told CNBC in a separate statement that it will launch new products for the US market on Tuesday.

AT&T has never confirmed reports that such a deal was under consideration and it again refused to comment on the matter on January 8 in an email exchange with eWEEK.

The reason blamed for the deal falling apart is pressure from the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees via a letter sent to the FCC back on December 20.

Huawei has continually denied allegations that it spies for China.

"On Tuesday, Huawei will introduce new products to the US market, including availability".
