Samsung unveils 'The Wall' a MicroLED 146-inch TV

The First Look 2018 attended by over 300 global media and influencers.

There are new features coming to an improved Samsung Smart TV experience as well, including an out-of-box set-up experience that will rival virtually every other smart TV platform out there today.

"As the world's first consumer modular MicroLED television, 'The Wall" represents another breakthrough, ' Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said yesterday.

We're excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology.

Samsung, however, said it isn't just about size and insane resolutions, but its new TV is also about technological innovations that can well redefine the entire TV segment as a whole. As a result, The Wall's self-emitting technology removes the need for color filters altogether and is able to deliver up to 2000 nits of peak brightness, brighter white hues, darker black shades and the truest natural colors. The MicroLED screen is also attributed with excelling in durability and effectiveness, including luminous efficiency, the light source lifetime and power consumption.

Samsung is due to launch The Wall in the United States and South Korea later this year, though its Australian arrival has yet to be confirmed. While there's no real prospect of widespread 8K content any time soon, the company claims the sets can upscale content from as low-resolution as standard definition. This AI technology upscales standard definition content to 8K resolution. The most highlighting feature of all is its capability in automatic sound adjustment as per respective contents. And this is where things get interesting. Samsung is also keeping quiet about the technical aspects of how these multiple panels will connect, or what kind of software will support the varied resolutions and shapes offered by the modular design.

LG US product marketing head Tim Alessi said the company would also introduce voice recognition to its televisions this year to let users control them by talking to the remote control. 2018 will also see the launch of Universal Guide - an advanced program guide which automatically recommends TV programs and content according to a user's preferences.

Those interested are welcomed at Samsung's CES booth #15006, Level 1, Central Hall of Las Vegas Convention Center, within January 9 and 12.
