Kyle Edmund crashes out to Grigor Dimitrov after nasty fall in Brisbane

After a week of injury woe at the Queensland Tennis Centre, the sight of Grigor Dimitrov hurdling the net and rushing to the side of a prostrate Kyle Edmund was not what British tennis fans wanted to see. Dimitrov proceeded to leap over the net to check on Edmund, helping him get to his feet and hobble over to his chair.

"At the end of the day, health above all (matters)".

At 4-4 in the third set, Edmund tumbled to the court, clutching his right ankle with both hands. Very unpredictable - don't really know how I'm going to come out.

Dimitrov will face Australia's Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final after he overcame Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov 1-6 6-3 6-4.

"I'm not going to put too much pressure on myself now for the Australian Open", said Kyrgios, who failed to advance past the second round in 2017 grand slams.

Edmund's ankle was taped up and he appeared reasonably comfortable on his return to the court, but the momentum had gone and two games later the match was over.

Svitolina rallied to beat defending champion Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 7-5, and Sasnovich reached her first tour-level final with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 semifinal win over seventh-seeded Anastasija Sevastova.

Asked about his lethargic start, Kyrgios said: "As bad as it is to say, it's kind of like a tap - I can turn it on when I want to. I just had to find a way again". The other semi-final will feature another Australian, 18-year-old Alex De Minaur, and unseeded American Ryan Harrison - who had been due to play Murray on Thursday before the Briton withdrew from the tournament.
