Malaysia in talks with USA firm Ocean Infinity to resume MH370 search

The Malaysian government on Saturday approved resuming the search for MH370, the Malaysia Airlines flight with 239 people on board that disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur in March 2014, AP reported.

Ocean Infinity said it was moving Seabed Constructor, the vessel that the company uses for the search, towards the vicinity of the possible search zone given that the weather window would be relatively narrow.

Malaysia, Australia and China ended a AUS$200 million (US$157 million) deep-sea search for the plane in January without any trace being found. But on Saturday, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the voyage is "no cure, no fee" - that is, Ocean Infinity will only profit from the mission if it's successful, ABC reports.

"It is our duty to look for answers and the plane, and as of today the government has chose to go ahead with the search", he said.

The U.S. company, Ocean Infinity, said earlier this week that it was "hopeful of receiving the final contract award for the resumption of the search for MH370 over the coming days".

The Malaysian government said it will allow a United States exploration firm to resume the search, Reuters reported. The vessel is carrying several autonomous submarines which can be launched from the ship to scour the seabed for the jet.

However, the Malaysian government has given permission to the response team to proceed with the negotiation process with Ocean Infinity, according to the email sent to family members.

"That means they are willing to search the area of 25,000 square kilometers (9,653 square miles) pointed out by the expert group near the Australian waters", he said.
