BJP Govt misleading people on Triple Talaq Bill

The passage of Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, popularly known as the Triple talaq Bill, will be delayed at least till the Budget Session of Parliament as the Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die on Friday without taking a decision on the legislation. She alleged that before introducing any law, a lot of home work and discussion should be made which is not done in the case of Triple Talaq so her Party demanded that BJP should not go in a haste but consider all the suggestions before pressurising the Opposition Parties to get the Bill cleared. However, a united Opposition stalled it in the Rajya Sabha with the Congress moving a motion that the bill be sent to a select committee for further scrutiny, a move strongly opposed by the treasury benches.

Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh said the people of the country were "watching" how the Congress was stalling the bill.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine-die earlier today, the last day of Winter Session of Parliament.

The bill, which criminalizes instant talaq among the Muslim community, is likely to be deferred to the next parliament session as the opposition build up pressure on sending the bill to a select committee.

The minister said it was a "shame" for the Congress that it was trying to "obstruct this part of justice" for Indian Muslim women.

He added that a total of 22 bills were passed in both - the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha - during the 13 working days of the winter session. "Congress has repeated history what it did with the Musilm women in 1986", Farah said. It accused the Congress of double standards and insisted that the bill be debated in the Rajya Sabha so that it can "expose the Congress' hypocrisy" for opposing it in the upper house after supporting it in the Lok Sabha, where it sailed through last week since the government has a big majority.
