Yes Bank Shares Close 5% Higher To Become Biggest Sensex Gainer

"Sensex and Nifty touched record highs in early Friday trade, mirroring the gains in world equities".

The finance ministry yesterday sought Parliament's nod for extra expenditure of Rs 80,000 crore towards recapitalisation of bad loans-saddled public sector banks through bonds.

In sectoral terms, the BSE telecom index rose the most by gaining 2.75 per cent, followed by consumer durables 1.25 per cent, teck 0.89 per cent, realty 0.75 per cent, FMCG 0.74 per cent, healthcare 0.62 per cent, auto 0.60 per cent, bankex 0.55 per cent and metal 0.46 per cent.

The benchmark BSE Sensex closed up 0.54 percent at 34,153.85, while the broader NSE Nifty ended 0.51 percent higher at 10,558.85.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average continued its record-setting run by ending 0.61 per cent higher in Thursday's trade.

Shares of Varun Beverages gained 9% today after the company entered into a partnership with PepsiCo India to sell the latter's Tropicana juices, Gatorade and Quaker dairy products in north and east India.

Indian equity indices ended on a positive note, while Nifty reclaimed almost 10,500 mark.

"Positive US jobs data fuelled optimism in global markets, having a rub-off effect in the domestic market".

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 212.05 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) made purchases worth Rs 325.24 crore on Thursday, as per provisional exchange data. "Hope good times continue in the market in the coming days too", said another broker.

The Nifty Metal Index inched higher, led by over 1% gain in shares of Hindalco Industries and Vedanta, tracking the overnight rise in global base metal prices.

Major Sensex gainers on Friday were: Yes Bank, up 5.03 per cent at Rs 333.05; Adani Ports, up 3.71 per cent at Rs 424.45; Bharti Airtel, up 3.36 per cent at Rs 540; IndusInd Bank, up 3.17 per cent at Rs 1,698.50; and Dr Reddy's Lab, up 2.40 per cent at Rs 2,467.35.

The S&P BSE Mid-cap and small cap index ended up by 1%. Japan's Nikkei also gained 0.5 per cent to a 26-year high.
