GOP senators urge criminal probe of Trump dossier author

The FBI has reopened its absurd investigation of the Clinton Foundation.

In an op-ed for the Washington Examiner Thursday, House Freedom Caucus leaders Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan called for Sessions's resignation on the grounds that he failed to prevent federal law-enforcement agents from leaking to the press.

Grassley's and Graham's letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray was attached to a classified memorandum that the senators said addressed apparent communications between Steele and "multiple USA news outlets" regarding the dossier.

The American legal system is really getting a workout these days, now that we have a president who sees courts and the Justice Department primarily as tools to take revenge on his enemies. He is accusing Rosenstein of overstepping the scope of his authority by appointing special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate not just "links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with" the campaign, but "any matters that arose or may arise directly from" the investigation.

Donald Trump has threatened to sue a publisher over a book he doesn't like. The meeting is a pivotal part of Mueller's Russian Federation probe.

The unsubstantiated dossier was put together during the election campaign and was partially funded by Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democrats. Prior to this revelation, many had believed that it was the Trump-Russia dossier, compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, that had prompted the investigation.

The Intelligence Committee has attempted to slap contempt citations on the department and the FBI for its investigation into claims of Russian collusion in the dossier.

The president did not mention in the comment which segment or guest on the show elicited the response, but the comments came following an interview involving former Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz, now a network correspondent, and his comments concerning FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who is reportedly planning to retire this spring.

The request against former British spy Christopher Steele is believed to be the first known criminal referral by lawmakers in the investigation into Russia's possible meddling in the 2016 United States election. Some legal experts have claimed that the move is in part motivated by politics. The FBI also meant to pay Steele to continue the research he had done for Fusion GPS until the dossier was revealed to the public by BuzzFeed News in January 2017.

There are now three ongoing congressional investigations into allegations of Russian interference in the election and complicity by Donald Trump's campaign team.
