WhatsApp to Stop working on these Smart-phones from New Year's Eve

WhatsApp says in a blog post that users on these particular platforms will not be able to create new accounts, nor re-verify existing accounts once the company ends support. At that time, Whatsapp had disclosed that after December 31, 2017, the app will stop working on phones running Nokia S40 OS. Some people who use WhatsApp on older phone models will see support for the app disappear as early as January 1, while certain Android users will no longer be able to use the app in 2020, according to an updated blog post on the platform's site.

In a blog post announcing the initial raft of changes in 2016, WhatsApp revealed that they had made the decision based on consumers' changing habits and technological advances.

"When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people's use of mobile devices looked very different from today", the company writes.

Why will WhatsApp no longer be supported?

About 70% of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia, the company explained. The platform said the gadgets "don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future".

For most WhatsApp users, pulling support for older operating system (OS) versions will not really be noticeable. Because of its cross-platform support it has become the most popular messaging platform in the world.

And any people with phones running on Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, BlackBerry OS or iOS 6 will either want to rethink their handset altogether or simply update their operational system. Using Roamit you can continue reading web pages on your devices and share pictures and files between your devices using the local Wi-Fi network.
