Vikings Fall For A Bears Trick Punt Return

And now, they'll be able to take a week off.

The Chicago Bears' 2017 season came to a merciful end on Sunday as they fell 23-10 to the Minnesota Vikings. The win secured the No. 2 seed in the NFC for the Vikings, who won at least 13 games in a season for just the second time in franchise history. A win over Chicago would have them locked into the second seed where they would get a first-round bye while a loss puts them in danger of dropping to third and having to play on Wild Card Weekend.

A few trick plays have been some of the only highlights of this otherwise poor Bears season, and Chicago sprinkled in another one for their final game of the year. The second infraction occurred in the end zone, setting up Murray's second 1-yard TD run of the game on the next play, making it 14-0 early in the second quarter.

The Bears struggled mightily in the first half on offense, producing just one first down while rushing for minus-one yard on six carries.

Here's a good still from the replay, in which zero Vikings are looking at Callahan.

The Vikings' Brian Robison sacks Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the third quarter Sunday. On a punt return against the Vikings, the Bears pulled off the always-satisfying decoy punt return, with Tarik Cohen serving as the bait and Bryce Callahan taking it to the house by hiding near the sideline. Each of his three seasons with the Bears will be among the worst four seasons of his National Football League head coaching career, making them the anomaly of his career. The Bears, however, could not pair an offensive touchdown with it. He had one reception for 1 yard in the game. He failed, however, to guide the Bears (5-11) across the goal line despite 11 plays from the 10-yard line or closer in the fourth quarter.
