Israel targets 'Hamas posts' after rockets fired from Gaza Strip

During the increased tensions, Israel repeatedly responded to days of rocket fire by striking 40 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tanks and aircraft targeted two Gaza Strip outposts belonging to Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday in response to rocket fire, the military said.

"A third rocket landed on a structure in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council in southern Israel", it added. A spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry said nobody was injured by the Israeli fire.

Rocket-warning sirens began shortly after midday in the Sha'ar Hanegev and Sdot Negev regions, alerting residents to take shelter, the Israeli army said on Twitter.

Protest in support of BDS

Clashes also erupted in the West Bank as Palestinians marked another "day of rage" following US President Donald Trump's controversial December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The status of the city is one of the most sensitive issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said Trump's move disqualified the USA from continuing in its role as the traditional mediator of peace talks.

Israel's military said Friday it attacked two Hamas posts in the Gaza Strip after three rockets launched from the besieged Palestinian enclave hit an Israeli building earlier.
