Egypt condemns St. Petersburg supermarket terrorist attack

An improvised explosive device packed with projectiles was set off at a St. Petersburg supermarket late Wednesday, injuring 13 people.

Russian authorities consider the bombing an act of attempted murder but have not yet classified it as terrorism.

An explosion at a supermarket in St. Petersburg, Russia, injured 10 people on Wednesday.

The Egyptian foreign ministry's statement renewed Egypt's call for the need to unite worldwide efforts to fight terrorism and its funding resources.

Russian authorities characterized the bomb as a "homemade explosive device" stuffed with "killing agents", apparently a reference to ball bearings used as shrapnel in the device.

The 10 injured people were taken to hospital where they were listed as being in a "satisfactory" condition.

Over 50 panicked shoppers have been evacuated from the building after police, bomb-disposal experts and other rescue services arrived at the scene.

During his remarks at the Kremlin awards ceremony, Putin said Russia's 2-year military campaign in Syria helped eliminate militants who threatened Russian Federation.

Mr Putin said the security situation in Russia would be much worse, however, if thousands of Russian citizens who had fought with the so-called Islamic State militant group in Syria had been allowed to return home.
