Giants suspend CB Eli Apple

The Giants suspended former Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple on Wednesday for "conduct detrimental to the team".

Bob Wischusen was filling in Tuesday and asked Collins about how he would self scout the year and what went wrong with the guys at corner. However, he said only one cornerback on the team needed to grow up and later added, "But that first pick. he's a cancer". "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary". They play hard. They love what they do. "But, that first pick, he's a cancer".

Explaining Apple's absence from the Giants' defense in Arizona, Spagnuolo said: "The way the practices went last week, we felt that the two guys that we played practiced better with the group and that's why we went in that direction".

Collins, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a fractured forearm, had to be restrained from confronting Apple in the past few weeks, according to a recent report by NJ Advance Media.

That doesn't mean Collins' sentiment regarding Apple was off base.

Collins' run of 47 consecutive starts will end on Sunday, with second-year pro Andrew Adams expected to start in the season finale versus the visiting Washington Redskins (7-8).

Apple said the next day that he had not spoken to Collins about anything.

Head coach Ben McAdoo was sacked earlier in the month.

Apple joined the Giants as the 10 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. As recently as Wednesday morning he was quoted by ESPN saying Apple had "given up" on the team because he was sitting on the bench and not standing on the sideline during Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. After a decent rookie season, he did not play a defensive snap in Week 16.

NY went to the playoffs last season, but 2017 has been a nightmare for the Giants.
