Energous Stock Surging After First FCC Approval For Wireless Charging

Furthermore, the WattUp Mid-Field Transmitter has the ability to charge multiple devices (actually any number of devices) at the same time.

Energous popped 64% to 14.50 in after-hours trading on the stock market today. A company named Energous, developer of the WattUp wireless charging at-a-distance technology, has received FCC approval for its transmitter. "As the first FCC certification for power-at-a-distance wireless charging under Part 18 of the FCC's rules, this development represents a new era of wireless charging, and opens up a tremendous opportunity for the electronics industry". One of the more popular ones is "Qi", an inductive charging technology that requires the device that needs to be charged to stay in a fixed location. The transmitter converts electricity to radio frequencies, which are then beamed into devices that have a corresponding receiver. The FCC approval does overcome the last legal hurdle to WattUp's adoption but that doesn't immediately translate to actual products using it. Energous may have missed its chance with the iPhone 8, which was initially rumored to support the technology. This technology should be very handy for anyone using small wireless devices like earbuds, smart watches, wireless keyboards and mice, and other similar devices you hate to plug in or set on a pad.

Future electronic devices can take advantage of the WattUp Mid Field transmitter. This only happened after years of sub-par wireless charging performance and multiple standards wars-we can expect the same from wireless charging tech.

What is, however, exciting is the advent of true room-scale wireless charging, where merely being within 15 feet of the transmitter means your device can start soaking up electrons. The company has not yet launched its system yet but instead intends on showcasing it at the CES 2018, which will be held mid-January in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to the company, its WattUp technology can be categorized in three versions depending on the range from which it can deliver power to the devices.
