Virgil Van Dijk missing again as Southampton prepare £60m sale

This season has been something of a horror show for Virgil van Dijk and Southampton.

Having come close to a transfer to Liverpool in the summer, Manchester City and Chelsea are now in pole position to land him and Pellegrino confessed he will be allowed to move on, for the right price.

The Dutchman has fallen out of favour at the St.Mary's in recent times due to a loss of form, He remained as an unused substitute in Southampton's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, while was dropped from the squad in his side's 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town.

The Dutch defender has been on Barcelona's wish list as a direct replacement for Javier Mascherano, who could leave the club in the winter transfer window.

Liverpool too are long-term admirers of the defender and tried the entire summer to sign him, but Southampton were unwilling to deal with the Merseyside club.

Juventus have no intention of competing with Liverpool on the offer front, and Calciomercato believe Van Dijk's next destination is likely to be in England. But the new boss has simply put it down to picking the best squad.

Pellegrino said: "I guess, with Virgil, there is a lot of speculation". This is the reason.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City close to completing a £60 million deal to secure Van Dijk in the January transfer window.

Spurs welcome Southampton to White Hart Lane this afternoon and get a bumper day of Premier League action underway. Not to mention the fact that the Camp Nou side also see the main defender Samuel Umititi injured long-term, which means that Barcelona lack depth in their back-line. "I want to play European football again and challenge for major honours and as such I would like Southampton to consider the interest in me from top clubs should it still exist".
