Up to 20 cm of snow expected across GTA on Christmas Eve

Much of southern Ontario was expected to be under five to 15 centimetres (two to six inches) of snow on Christmas day according to Environment Canada forecasters. Snowfall totals of 15 to 20 centimetres are expected by the time it tapers off overnight.
Somewhat heavier snow is likely in some areas, especially in the Greater Toronto Area where a snowfall warning is in effect. The snow will become heavy at times this evening, enhanced by a heavy snow band off of Lake Ontario.
"Snow will begin late Sunday afternoon with the bulk of the snow falling Sunday night". Some bus routes are also diverting due to slippery conditions on the roads.
Poronaysk, with a population of just 16,000, is expected to be blanketed by 50 cm of snow on Christmas Day.
The weather agency said motorists should drive with extra caution as there is reduced visibility on the roads.
