Trump Re-Ups Claims That Dossier Is 'Bogus,' Citing 'Fox And Friends' Report

"This attack on the Federal Bureau of Investigation is really unprecedented, and Republican leadership, if they want to demonstrate any loyalty, not to the president, but to the country and to our institutions, needs to step up and say stop it", said former Maryland Representative Donna Edwards. The Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee then assumed responsibility for the dossier's funding throughout the remainder of the election. "And they used this Crooked Hillary pile of garbage as the basis for going after the Trump Campaign!" the United States leader tweeted.

Trump was referring to a dossier, presumably harmful to his reputation, compiled a year ago by a private investigator and paid for, in part, by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign team.

The dossier was a collection of unverified claims about alleged Russian collusion with the Trump campaign. "FBI TAINTED", Trump tweeted.

Trump fired off the tweet as Republicans in Congress have followed his lead and turned up the heat on top FBI officials over the alleged "bias" among top agents pursuing the Russian Federation investigation.

In tweets over the Christmas holiday, Trump went after FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who recently announced his retirement.

However, a major conflict of interest appeared when it was revealed that the Clinton campaign and the DNC helped fund Fusion's work through the end of October 2016, just days before Election Day, according to the Washington Post. His lawyers were to have met with Mueller and his team last week.

The information in the dossier, which included allegedly compromising information on Trump, made its way to the FBI, which opened its own investigation of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and other officials.
