On Friday, the company topped that news with word that it has been acquired by Amazon.

Blink makes low-priced video doorbells and security cameras for indoor and outdoor use.

"Since launching in early 2016, we've been thrilled by your response to our ultra-affordable, truly wire-free video home security cameras and monitoring systems".

The main difference is that Blink's products work wirelessly, while Amazon's existing options usually need to be plugged in. The company got its start through its Kickstarter campaign back in 2014 that raised over $1 million with its eponymous smart home security camera.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"As one of their distributors, we already know customers love their home security cameras and monitoring systems", Amazon said in a statement. "We're excited to welcome their team and invent together on behalf of customers", an Amazon spokesperson wrote in an email to Mashable.

What sets the devices apart from most competitors, including Amazon's Cloud Cam, is that they don't come with a power cable.

Amazon is clearly interested in owning more of the connected home space, after having tremendous success in the bourgeoning market via products like its Alexa smart speaker. "It's Day 1 for us at Amazon, and we're looking forward to seeing what we can deliver to our customers together", reads the press release from Blink. Blink also says it will continue to sell and support its products, but again, this could change.
