National concealed carry reciprocity, NICS improvement bill passes House

Hudson has fought for hide and carry reciprocity for years and has argued that current gun laws are so confusing and patchwork that hide and carry holders could be breaking the law by accident.

The proposal, H.R.38, slid through the House on a Republican-heavy 231-198 roll call after a brief debate.

If it passes the Senate, the bill would allow individuals with state-issued concealed carry permits to carry their weapons legally into other states, overriding state attempts at gun control and essentially creating a national gun license.

Do you agree with that last statement?

The bill now heads to the senate. We wouldn't recommend holding your breathe in hopes of a quick ruling, however.

The NRA awarded Rep. DesJarlais an "A" grade for his work to protect Americans' gun rights.

This bill amends the federal criminal code to allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms. Number two, her tweet ignores the fact that concealed carry permit holders are among the most law-abiding of law-abiding citizens.

The bill also makes improvements to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, NICS.

While the bill would seem to undermine the authority of each state, supporters argue that the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution should afford concealed carry permits the same nationwide recognition as driver's licenses.

"The first concrete action this body has taken in response the numerous gun tragedies our nation has experienced is to make it easier for people to carry hidden, loaded guns in our communities", said Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12), a New Jersey Democrat who has strongly opposed efforts to loosen gun restrictions.

With each tragedy, we lament the loopholes in our federal gun laws. Right now a person has to find out what the law says in each state that they are traveling in so they don't get arrested. New Jersey is one of just 10 states that do not already recognize out-of-state concealed carry permits, which only reinforces the fact that New Jersey remains one of the leaders in understanding the value of tight gun controls.

"Just days after the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, the NRA is engaging their allies in Congress to push through a unsafe national concealed carry reciprocity law, which begs the question: how low can you go?"
