Mueller Subpoenas Deutsche Bank Records Relating to Trump

Donald Trump's banking records have been handed to special counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating alleged collusion between the president's campaign team and Russian Federation.

Mueller is investigating Russian attempts to influence the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion by Trump associates.

Bloomberg News corrected a major story that alleged the Justice Department had subpoenaed President Donald Trump's past financial records.

However, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders rejected reports of a subpoena for Mr Trump-related financial records as "completely false", as did Mr Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow.

Deutsche Bank said it would not comment on any of its individual clients.

"Several news outlets-including Bloomberg-reported yesterday that the subpoena targeted Trump and his family's bank records, which was disputed by Trump's personal lawyer and the White House", the new Bloomberg story acknowledges.

Deutsche Bank management is ready to share information about the lender's dealings with Trump and is hopeful that doing so will help end the series of inquiries from Democrats, an executive at the bank, who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations, has previously told Bloomberg News.

Donald Trump and his family have long-standing ties to Germany's largest bank.

On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal provided more context on the request, reporting that the subpoena concerned "people or entities affiliated with" the president, not Trump himself.

Most interesting of all, though, is what Harding goes on to detail: Around the same time Deutsche Bank's private wealth division was granting these extraordinary loans to Trump, business in the the bank's new Moscow branch was booming, thanks to the fact that it owned basically all of the business of Vneshtorgbank, or VTB - the Kremlin bank. The reason Deutsche Bank attracts so much attention from Trump critics is that the Justice Department looked into an alleged $10 billion Russian money-laundering scheme.

As Mueller's investigation unfolds, Trump has gone on the offensive. In an interview this July, Trump told The New York Times that examination of his or his family's finances by Mueller would cross a red line. Allegedly the bank helped finance the renovation of the Old Post Office in Washington, the purchase of the Doral golf course in Florida and the construction of an office building in Chicago. The only conclusion that we can arrive at with any certitude is that Trump is kidding himself if he thinks this investigation will conclude by the end of the year.

Trump and Deutsche Bank have not always been on good terms. Trump campaign chairman Paul Monafort, his deputy Rick Gates and campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos have also been charged.

A spokesman for Manafort declined to comment.
