'Westworld' production shut down because of wildfires

The network halted production of its show "Westworld" on Tuesday when wildfires neared its filming location in Los Angeles County, it told CNN in a statement.

A statement from a production representative reads: "Due to nearby wildfires, Westworld stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it's safe to do so".

One of the writers for S.W.A.T. tweeted that the safety of the cast and crew are of utmost importance to them, which is why they chose to not push through with their shooting schedule.

"S.W.A.T." Season 1, starring Shemar Moore, continues with Episode 6, airing December 7 on CBS.

A separate blaze, the Creek Fire, is also burning in Los Angeles County in the Kagel Canyon area, near Sylmar, with further mandatory evacuation orders in effect. The freeways have already been closed and there have been traffic jams on the main roads. Hopefully, the fires can be contained and filming will be able to resume in the near future. However, a few water-dropping helicopters have already reached the scene.

The series was one of HBO's biggest hits in 2016, and while the series was quickly renewed, development on a second season has taken longer than most shows (not surprising, considering that the development on the first season was said to have issues of its own).

"Westworld", a sci-fi western drama, is in production on the second season, which is expected to premiere in 2018. The cast and crew of the series brought home five Emmy awards.
