Elton John's Mother Sheila Dies, Singer 'In Shock'

Elton only recently announced that he had rekindled his relationship with his mother after close to nine years of not speaking to each other.

The couple fell out for many years before they managed to heal their rift in May of this year.

Alongside a picture of the two of them grinning together, Elton - whose real name is Reginald Dwight - wrote: "So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning".

The singer explained on his Instagram he was in shock as he 'only saw her last Monday'. Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. "It upsets me, but to be honest with you, I don't miss her".

When his mother refused, Elton stopped talking to her.

"We are now back in touch".

Sir Elton, 70, revealed previous year that he and his mother had reconciled after not speaking since 2008.

In February he took to his Instagram to send her a Mother's Day message.

The pair lost contact in 2008 after what is described as a 'petty argument'.

"Then to my utter amazement, he told me he hated me".

"I don't know [if watching me reminds her of her son]". And he banged the phone down.

Paul Bacon, who performs as "Ultimate Elton", charmed Ms Farebrother so much that the pair stayed in touch - and struck up an unlikely friendship. "Imagine. To me, his mother". The star is believed to have seen her a week ago before he began a series of European gigs.

Their full reconciliation is believed to have come shortly after Elton spent time in intensive care with a bacterial infection in April after falling "violently ill" on a flight to the United Kingdom from Chile.

John also had a brush with death in April when he contracted a "potentially deadly" bacterial infection in South America.
