N. Korea says Trump `begging' for nuclear war with drills

In Washington, meanwhile, an influential Republican lawmaker joined National Security Advisor HR McMaster in warning that time is running out on diplomatic efforts to rein in North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

"We heartily celebrate the successful test launch of the Hwasong-15 which showed Chosun (North Korea)'s power and greatness to the whole world", read one banner held up by the crowd, referring to the missile.

The air forces of South Korea and the United States are ready for another joint exercise, set to start on Monday.

North Korea said the new missile soared to an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles), more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station, and flew 950 km during its 53-minute flight - higher and longer than any North Korean missile, before landing in the sea near Japan.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday that he believes it's time to start moving the families of American military personnel out of South Korea as North Korea pushes the USA closer to a military conflict.

Graham's remarks echoed those of McMaster, who told a security forum in Washington on Saturday that the potential for war with North Korea "is increasing every day".

North Korea on Wednesday successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile, with leader Kim Jong-un declaring his country had now achieved full nuclear statehood. It launched an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-15, that state-controlled media described as the "most powerful ICBM" carrying a "super-large heavy warhead" to unprecedented heights of nearly 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles).

Graham said this development showed conflict is approaching.

"We are in a race to be able to solve this problem", Mr McMaster said.

Since fleeing the isolated empire in 2010, she said she has suffered chronic pain as a result of living near North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear testing site.

But the national security adviser said Kim was extremely unlikely to change his behavior "without some significant new actions in the form of much more severe sanctions" and "complete enforcement of the sanctions that are in place".

North Korea has repeatedly rejected accusations of human rights abuses and blames sanctions for a dire humanitarian situation. "We're asking China to act in China's interest, as they should, and we believe increasingly that it's in China's urgent interest to do more".

"What we are endeavoring to do is to regain our strategic focus", he said.
