Selena Gomez gives tearful speech thanking friend who gave her a kidney

"I want people to know that I respect the platform that I have so deeply because I knew that I wanted to be a part of something great, I wanted people to feel great".

Yep, we warned you. She got incredibly emotional as her A Rainy Day in NY co-star Elle Fanning presented her with the award.

Gomez has been abundantly introspective, which was clear from the accompanying interview she did for the December 9 issue of Billboard.

After pausing for a moment to gather her thoughts, she continued: "I feel incredibly lucky". "Seeing all these women come up here tonight and say these handsome speeches with their awards is so inspiring", she told the crowd, then paying tribute to those who have helped her get to that point.

The controversy surrounding Allen's personal life has continually led to public criticism for those actors and actresses who work on his films, with Gomez the latest to be quizzed on whether she considered the downsides before signing on to Rainy Day in NY. "So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right".

She's proud of her transplant scar.

Last night the Billboard Women In Music Awards celebrated some fantastic and inspirational women from across the music and entertainment industry. "It was really hard in the beginning", she admitted. "But I really, really felt that that's what helped me feel satisfied with where I am". "That's just who she is".

In September, Gomez revealed in a vulnerable Instagram post that - as outcome of her lupus (she was diagnosed in 2013) - she was forced to undergo emergency kidney transplant surgery earlier this year.

"Accept the fact that there is room for everyone", she said.

She auditioned for Woody Allen's 2018 comedy "A Rainy Day in New York" five times.

"I feel all those things". And it was a great experience for me. "I'm out there fighting for you".
