Trump's Attack on CNN International 'Emboldens' Hostile Foreign Governments — CNN's Clarissa Ward

Trump fired the first shot on Saturday by lamenting the influence CNN International holds around the world as a "major source of (Fake) news", going on to add that they represent the US poorly.

In a morning tweet, Trump said the contest would include CNN but not include Fox News and would search for the network that was most "dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted" in their coverage of the presidency.

Trump has targeted CNN in the past too calling it "fake news" because of its coverage of his presidential campaign and administration. "Even the loudest critics can't silence the facts", Blitzer said, in re Trump, queuing up CNN's video of its journalists in various harrowing situations while covering news overseas.

In a separate tweet on Monday, he mocked the ratings for the MSNBC show "Morning Joe", and in tweets on Sunday, he complained about CNN International.

President Jeff Zucker put his cable channel in the cross-hairs of President Donald Trump with comments he made months ago, according to analysis in The Washington Post.

Trump returned to the White House last night after spending the Thanksgiving weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The pattern seems to be that if news is negative about Trump, then it's "fake news".

"Comey took to the social media platform less than half an hour later, tweeting, "'Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that can not be limited without being lost.'" He attributed the quote to Jefferson, who wrote it in a 1786 letter to the physician, James Currie. In that Saturday tweet, he also insisted that CNN was representing the United States "poorly" to the world.

This is not the first time the USA cable news channel, which rarely reports favorably on the current president, has heard such criticism.

In a tweet responding to Trump's latest criticisms of CNN International, the network's communications department wrote, "It's not CNN's job to represent the U.S to the world". Trump once denied in a tweet that he has enough free time to watch TV.

The President also criticized another news organization Monday that he regularly calls out for its negative coverage of him, NBC, saying "their rates are awful, nobody cares!"

"The Tax Cut Bill is tagging along exceptionally well, incredible help", Trump composed.
