Man accused of gunning down Texas State Trooper is arrested

The sheriff's office in Waller County, just west of Houston, said on Facebook two hours before the capture that the suspect was seen by a deputy and shots were fired.

He has also been charged in Anderson County for evading arrest.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered that all Texas flags at Department of Public Safety facilities be lowered to half-staff in honor of Allen, who was fatally shot Thursday afternoon near Fairfield. There are four charges listed in his record, including the capital murder charge, for which no bond is listed. It says he was born in Kentucky and moved to Mexia, Texas, when he was in elementary school. DPS said Black shot Allen with a rifle after the trooper walked back to his vehicle. We ask for your prayers for his entire family and his many friends and colleagues during the hard days ahead. Jail officials confirm he has been before the magistrate and is officially charged. Bond has not been set. Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Damon Allen was a loving husband and father of three.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said in social media posts late Thursday that Allen initiated a traffic stop shortly before 4 p.m. on Interstate 45 near Fairfield, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Dallas.

"Sad on Thanksgiving to lose one of our state troopers in the line of duty".

Overnight, a Hays County deputy was injured and a suspect found dead after a shooting that occurred while deputies responded to a burglary report in Wimberley, officials said.

"Officials in Limestone and Freestone counties came together to conduct a massive search for Black and described him as a black male, 5' 11" weighing 175 pounds. He was treated for injuries that weren't life-threatening.
