Army jawan found dead in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian

The bullet-ridden-dead body of Irfan Ahmed Mir, who was off-duty and had come back home for vacation, was recovered this morning, police official said.

The body has been identified as that of Irfan Ahmad Dar, a resident of Sezan Keegam, a police official said.

Police said that his body was spotted in the morning by locals in an orchard in the Wothmula village and they immediately informed the police. The man was reportedly working for the army in the valley.

"The individual was posted in a Territorial Army unit in Bandipora district". In May, Lt Umar Fayaz was killed in the same area after militants kidnapped him from a marriage party in Kulgam district.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti while condemning the killing of the soldier said, "Such acts will not weaken the resolve to establish peace and normalcy in Kashmir".

Army spokesman said that Sepoy Irfan Ahmad Dar son of Gh Mohd Dar, of village Senzen, Shopian district was a serving soldier. "His auto was also found near the spot", Shopian SP Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said. The police soon took the body into their possession for further investigations and conducting other formalities before handing it over to the next of the kin of the deceased.

Mehbooba's predecessor and opposition National Conference leader Omar Abdullah termed the incident as tragic and reprehensible.

In September, militants killed 31-year-old BSF trooper Ramzan Parray outside his home in Bandipora. My unqualified condemnation & heartfelt condolences to his family, " he wrote.

This is the third incident of murder of security forces personnel in the recent times.
