Apple iPhone SE 2 releasing in July, report claims

Currently, the iPhone SE sells in 16GB and 64GB capacities, so a jump to 32GB for the base model would be welcomed.

Apple iPhone SE 2 could launch in early 2018, according to a new report. The iPhone SE in comparison has the Apple A9 processor.

The report doesn't give an exact release date but claims that mass production os the so-called iPhone SE 2 will begin in the first quarter, likely a sign that it'll launch around mid-2018.

Wistron has already been called upon by Apple to take over manufacturing duties of the iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone SE, while Foxconn, Apple's longstanding manufacturing partner, handles the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

In terms of overall design and aesthetics, the company is expected to use the same chassis as that of the original iPhone SE with improved hardware and the latest software.

The iPhone SE was launched with an intention of being a budget smartphone offering from Apple. Other suggested products include AirPods, iPhone cases, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch bands, iPad accessories, MacBook Pro, Beats headphones, Apple TV, selfie stick, wireless charging pad, photo printer, drone, R2-D2 toy and Apple Store Gift Cards.

Apple has been adamant about keeping the smaller handset alive over the past few years, and it's nice to see the company is keeping its word by making some modern changes to the device so it can still compete in the market. This was intended for those that didn't necessarily want to make the jump to the larger 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes that came with the iPhone 6. Will it still retain a similar design as the iPhone SE, which looks like an iPhone 5s?
