SC Department of Workforce Releases October Jobless Numbers

State officials say the unemployment rate was below the state average in three largest metro areas of ME, which are Portland-South Portland, Lewiston-Auburn and Bangor.

The state's jobs engine is humming along, according to John Albin, the Labor Department commissioner.

Job losses were reported in manufacturing (100); financial activities (300); trade, transportation and utilities (500); professional and business services (500); and educational and health services (600).

The unemployment rate is the lowest since January 2001. But not all communities and regions are feeling the benefits of this economy equally.

Unemployment remains historically low in ME, with the rate at or below 4 percent for 25 consecutive months, officials say.

"In October, 3,383 additional Kansans became employed", said Kansas Secretary of Labor, Lana Gordon. In October 2016, the island's rate of unemployment stood at 3.6 percent.

Nebraska's unemployment rate was down 0.1 percentage points from September and 0.6 percentage points from October 2016.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry released its employment situation report for October 2017.

Ohio's unemployment rate is a full percentage point higher than the US unemployment rate, which was 4.1% in October, down from 4.2% in September and 4.8% in October 2016.
