Japanese Train Line Apologizes for 'Inconvenience' After Departing 20 Seconds Early

Looks like we all need to move to Japan - they take their train schedule very seriously.

The northern line connects Akihabara with Tsukuba, and leaves every four minutes, but if a passenger depends on catching that 9:44 train in order to catch another connecting train at a different station, the early departure could have resulted in them being late to work.

A northbound train on the Tsukuba Express line in Tokyo left the station at 9:43:40am instead of the scheduled time at 9.44am on Tuesday (Nov 14), according to Japan Today. The company added that the crew of this particular train has been instructed to be more "thorough" in the future about basic train operations.

Japanese train services are famed for their punctuality, with significant delays relatively uncommon.

To the point where they issued a formal apology after one of their trains departed a little too early then expected. "I'm Japanese, and even I think it's excessive to make such a big deal out of a 20-second mistake, but as an American, how do you feel about it?"

In a statement, the Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company "sincerely apologised" for any convenience, saying: "Although there was no difference from the station timetable, the departure occurred about 20 seconds earlier than scheduled".

The train company just thought they'd apologise anyway.

That said, the company also pointed out that no customers had raised any complaints about the early departure.
