N Korea brands Trump 'warmonger' as his Asia tour moves to Hanoi

Earlier today, North Korea slammed President Trump, alleging that the U.S. President is a "destroyer" who "begged for nuclear war during his time in Asia".

The North on Saturday said Trump's warnings "can never frighten us or put a stop to our advance", according to the state-run KCNA news agency, quoting a Pyongyang foreign ministry spokesman.

Trump said in a speech at South Korea's parliament Wednesday, "Currently stationed in the vicinity of this peninsula are the three largest aircraft carriers in the world loaded to the maximum with magnificent F-35 and F-18 fighter jets".

Trump is in Vietnam as part of a five-nation tour of Asia and North Korea's nuclear weapons programme has been a major talking point with his Japanese, South Korean and Chinese counterparts.

During his trip to Asia, Trump attempted a symbolic stare-down of Kim this week at the heavily fortified border that separates North and South Korea. But heavy fog forced the cancellation of Trump's plans, and he was forced to turn back.

The four-day exercise in the western Pacific involves USS Ronald Reagan, USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt - as well as seven South Korean vessels, including three destroyers.

In a fresh show of force, three United States aircraft carriers, accompanied by South Korean warships, launched a joint naval drill yesterday. That, according to Pyongyang, only encourages North Korea to "speed up" completing its nuclear armed forces.

The United States has been sending its strategic assets, also including long-range bombers, to the region more frequently for patrols or drills amid accelerating North Korean efforts to expand its nuclear weapons program.

Tensions between Washington and Pyongyang have escalated after North Korea's test firing of missiles and conducting its most powerful hydrogen test in September.

Ever since US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's feud broke out in public, barbs have been exchanged nearly regularly between the two nations.
