Tech Athletics records highest ever graduation success rate

The Rutgers football program has earned a GSR score of 81 percent-or-better in each of the past nine years.

The NCAA's Academic Performance Rates will be released in the spring 2018 semester.

"In the past decade, we have worked purposefully to provide additional support and encouragement to assist more than 460 Razorback student-athletes annually in achieving academics and athletics success while advancing toward graduation".

The Rutgers football program scored a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 82 percent and a Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) of 58 percent in the latest report released Wednesday by the NCAA for all Division I institutions.

Eight teams improved upon last year's score including the men's basketball team, which registered a GSR score of 67 percent after posting a score of 22 percent last year.

"Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall", Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said in a statement. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution (essentially passed to another squad's GSR cohort if they transfer and removed altogether in the case of early departures for professional careers).

At 88 percent, Georgia Tech's GSR surpasses the Division I average of 87 percent, which is also an all-time record. Baseball, men's track and field, soccer and softball either improved or maintained their GSR scores. This year's six Tech teams in that category (again, four-year average) included men's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and volleyball.

This year's reflect the number of scholarship student-athletes who entered Rutgers since 2010-11 and graduated within six academic years.

The GSR takes into account the many different academic paths followed by today's college students.

The NCAA also released federal graduation rates of all students. Auburn female student-athletes posted a 91 percent graduation success rate, while the men had a GSR of 74 percent.

"The consistency of these data across years is a tribute to the dedicated hard work of our student-athletes, but also to the coaches and administrators who understand the academic demands of our institution", Davidson said.
