Google's Upcoming 'Files Go' App to Compete with Apple's AirDrop

Talking about the Files Go app, it's a simple file manager that aims to help you take care of the files stored on your phone and tell you about which files are taking up most of the space. In response, Google vice president Caesar Sengupta tweeted last night that they were making it "available for a few more of you on the Play Store".

Share your files offline - fast & secure - with the tap of a button. In fact, according to Netflix: "If you leave the testing program and a public version of the app is available, you can switch to public version by uninstalling the testing version and installing the app again on Google Play".

Here, the Storage tab, left, shows a device with 8GB of internal storage and displays how much capacity has been used. The app also includes options to clear app caches, delete apps that aren't used often and remove spam or duplicate images, says the site.

The "Files" tab allows users to look through their files by categories like Downloads, Received files, Images, Videos, Audio, and Documents. According to now-pulled Play Store images, the app is meant to transfer files wirelessly, even without an internet connection, much like Apple's AirDrop tech. File sharing works similarly to Apple's AirDrop feature, meaning you won't need an internet connection to drop a file to a friend from your device to theirs.

The app itself is fairly lightweight, as an under 6 MB download.

From there, users are brought to a message-like interface that shows a history of file transfers. Like the similar app AirDrop by rival Apple s app that runs only on iOS smartphones, it will operate through contacts. If you once knew that the app must've cost something, then the one listed was given for free, you should start to get suspicious.

There are no details about when the app will be released. This makes it easier to free up some space by uninstalling those apps right from the Google solution.
