First look at new 'Doctor Who' star Jodie Whittaker

Jodie Whittaker's costume as the 13th Doctor contains a few shout-outs to the past.

America revealed the first look at Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who costume, and it's clear Thirteen has got some serious style! In the photo tweeted by the show's official account, the 35-year-old actress is seen wearing black shirt with a band of colourful stripes, yellow suspenders holding up blue cropped pants, and an oversized grey trench coat with dark lining.

Throw in some sturdy boots, and this Doctor means business (and, we may add, is rather stylish).

Whittaker is the first female to play The Doctor in the long-running BBC series.

Indeed, that long jacket is very reminiscent of the Tenth Doctor's (#DavidTennant) billowing coat.

What do you think of the new look? Plus, the vivid lines on the Doctor's t-shirt, coupled with her bright blue trousers also recall the Sixth Doctor's - ahem - rather colorful ensemble. It's a Doctor Who tradition!

Stripes on the sweater point to those on the striped scarf won by Tom Baker's Doctor, while the suspenders pay homage to the 11th Doctor Matt Smith.

Fans will first see the new Doctor this Christmas when Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor regenerates, but everyone will have to wait until Autumn 2018 to see what's in store in the new full series.

Curiously, some Twitter commenters even went as far as complaining about Whittaker's lack of tie, somehow forgetting that many Doctors, like Eccleston's Ninth, Davison's Fifth and Capaldi's Twelfth, didn't wear one.

When her casting was announced in July, Whittaker said it felt "overwhelming, as a feminist" to have the role. And yet, this is an outfit that, while new, instantly screams "The Doctor", and it's one that you might just see a whole lot more of come the next comic-con season.
