Facebook pilots new revenge porn measures in Australia

Earlier also Facebook took steps to fight against revenge porn and added an artificial intelligence tool capable of matching photos to prevent them from appearing on social media platforms like Messenger and Instagram. The trial is due to spread to the UK, US and Canada.

People in Australia who are concerned that a former partner may distribute intimate photos of them on Facebook can use Messenger to send the photos to be "hashed", according to the office of Australia's e-safety commissioner.

Not only will this team mean issues like this will be dealt with faster, but this new photo-recognition technology that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is putting into place will be able to find any reproductions of the offensive photos and delete them all.

From that point, any attempts to upload or share the same image will be blocked, the Guardian reports.

She explained: "Revenge porn is becoming such a huge epidemic among young people, it's absolutely terrible and if there's any way to tackle it then we should take that seriously".

Earlier this year leaked documents revealed 54,000 cases of revenge porn are dealt with by Facebook each month. "We're using image-matching technology to prevent non-consensual intimate images from being shared", said Antigone Davis, Facebook's head of global safety.

She added the hash can not be turned back into an image.

This imprint will then flag up through messenger and automatically stop it being shared on Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

"Yes, they're not storing a copy, but the image is still being transmitted and processed". When uploading content to Facebook or any other site, there is always a fear that the content could be used to harass or bully the original uploader.

A Facebook spokesman told the Telegraph: This is an initial pilot in Australia.
