Pokémon Go Developer Niantic Tackles Harry Potter With its New Upcoming Project

Niantic Labs achieved a insane amount of success with Pokemon Go, their augmented reality mobile game based on the popular videogame series. It does state that the game is co-developed by Warner Bros. It's unclear what the game's going to be about and what the gameplay mechanics are going to be.

There is actually a collection of Pokemon games on mobile now.

"Almost five years ago Niantic launched Ingress, our first augmented reality mobile game, turning real-world streets, neighborhoods and cities into a global game board, and bringing people together in a shared digital reality".

Another interesting bit about this game is the reveal of a new "Portkey Games", a part of Warner Bros. The game is now in development for iOS and Android devices for a 2018 release.

Hopefully additional details come down the pipeline in the next few weeks so we know exactly how we'll be spending most of our time when the game does drop.

You could say that the success experienced by Niantic's Pokémon Go AR game has been downright magical.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be their chance to fix some of the problems that have dogged Pokemon Go from its inception, including rural areas being at an inherent disadvantage compared to their urban counterparts. The company hasn't had the greatest relationship with its Pokémon Go player base, as it rolled out updates and bug fixes months after players complained about them and as some initial users dropped the game.

The Harry Potter franchise is nearly certainly more recognizable on a global scale. Each game plays a little differently. It is expected to follow in the footsteps of Pokemon Go, which benefited from a location-based, augmented reality mobile experience.
