Weinstein hired ex-Mossad agents to suppress abuse allegations, report claims

Ronan Farrow, the reporter behind the original expose into Weinstein's sexual harassment history, told The Late Show's Stephen Colbert on 3 November that the New Yorker would be releasing another report "this machine that was so instrumental in keeping this quiet as long".

Waxman has reported that Weinstein and Boies met with top editors at the Times in 2004, perhaps to pressure the paper to spike her story.

The latest allegations against Weinstein came as the Television Academy, responsible for the Emmy awards, announced it had expelled Weinstein for life. In absolute terms, the investigation of Farrow is already being impeded by the refusal of publication of his main employer, NBC, in which the chief information officer had tried to justify himself awkwardly in the columns of the Deadline, it is suspected that Harvey Weinstein was not remained idle faced with the prospect of revelations potentially explosive.

One firm, Black Cube, used undercover private investigators to seek out those with allegations against Weinstein and, before they went public with them, attempt to create relationships and extract information in secretly taped conversations, to then deliver to Weinstein. She identified herself only as Anna and claimed she also had an allegation against Weinstein.

The Black Cube agency was hired specifically to prevent The New York Times and the New Yorker's investigative reporting on Weinstein, as well as actress Rose McGowan's book discussing his alleged abuse, the New Yorker reported, citing one of several contracts signed with Black Cube.

Neither Hofmeister nor Boies immediately responded to requests for comment.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and producers guild have also revoked Weinstein's membership.

According to The New Yorker, Weinstein hired two firms - Kroll and Black Cube - to gather information from the accusers and from reporters working on stories.

According to the investigation, Black Cube, which describes itself as "a select group of veterans from the Israeli elite intelligence", repeatedly fished for information on actress Rose McGowan, who publicly accused Weinstein of rape.

"Everyone lied to me all the time". The work by Black Cube was allegedly run through one of Weinstein's lawyers, high-powered attorney David Boies, who famously represented Al Gore in the 2000 Supreme Court election dispute.

Weinstein "unequivocally denies" all claims of non-consensual sex, a spokesperson for the producer says.

In other cases, journalists directed by Weinstein or the private investigators interviewed women and reported back the details, the New Yorker reported.

Police launched investigations in London, Los Angeles and NY after around 100 women accused Weinstein, once one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to rape.

"Some of it [is] very, very troubling and some of it, I think, [is] checking out", he said.

"We consider this intolerable conduct, a grave betrayal of trust, and a breach of the basic professional standards that all lawyers are required to observe, "the New York Times said in a statement". Farrow's new report on Weinstein's suppression techniques might help explain why, but even Waxman can't say for certain.
