Ex-MLB All-Star pitcher Roy Halladay dead in plane crash

Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay was killed when his plane crashed on Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico.

Halladay's plane crashed Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico.

Halladay was twice named as a Cy Young Award victor. He played for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies. Then, last month, his other dream was fulfilled, when the 40-year-old became the proud owner of an ICON A5 plane. Investigators could not immediately confirm how many people were in the plane at the time of the crash.

ICON Aircraft featured Halladay in an October article about him receiving the first 2018 model of the plane. Halladay was also the pitching coach for Braden's high-school team at Calvary Christian in Florida. On Halloween, he posted that flying it low over the water felt like piloting a fighter jet. He won a Cy Young Award as best pitcher in both the American and National Leagues and amassed 203 regular-season victories. He claims the rare title of being one of only two players in Major League Baseball history to throw a no-hitter in the playoffs.

"She's fought me the whole way", Roy Halladay said. Even my wife, who used to be uncomfortable in small planes, now asks where we should take the A5 for the weekend.

We are saddened by the tragic news that Roy Halladay, 2-time Cy Young Award victor & 8-time All-Star, has died in a plane crash.

This is a developing story; more to follow.
