Iran Parades Illegal Missile During Anniversary Celebration of US Embassy Takeover

A ballistic missile and signs mocking President Trump were on display on the streets of Tehran on Saturday as thousands of Iranians gathered for the anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the United States Embassy.

Iran also displayed a 2000 km-range ballistic missile during the march.

They gathered at the former embassy where Iranian student revolutionaries climbed over the walls on November 4, 1979, and seized 52 Americans, holding them hostage for 444 days. Just two days ago, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the U.S.as Iran's "number one enemy".

The diplomatic building was stormed by militant students following the 1979 revolution which toppled the US-backed Shah.

A crowd chanted "Death to Israel" and "Down with the U.S." during the celebration, and similar events were being staged across the country as well, Iranian state television reported.

President Trump refused to re-certify the 2015 landmark nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in October and the USA has imposed more sanctions on Iran over its ballistic missile program.

On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian university students took over the United States diplomatic mission, which they believed had turned into a centre of espionage aimed at overthrowing the then-nascent Islamic Republic.

"The US has always been dealt blows by our country and our region and thus regularly bares its warmongering teeth", Shamkhani said, according to state-run Press TV.

According to reports, some marchers held signs featuring derogatory caricatures of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The historic pact between Iran and major powers, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was concluded in 2015 and went into force in January 2016, a year before Trump took office.

Shamkhani then touched upon the issue of CAATSA - Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, saying the sanctions have targeted Iran's economy, nuclear program, and national capabilities.
